Fruit Orchards

In permanent crop production systems, the delta between «survival» and «genetic yield potential» is governed by the tree’s total metabolic efficiency. While environmental sensors track external inputs, they fail to capture the plant’s internal processing of those resources. speakingTrees utilizes high-resolution dendrometry to quantify the tree’s response to the totality of its environment—integrating hydraulic status, nutrient uptake efficiency, and carbon partitioning into a single, high-fidelity biological signal. By monitoring the micron-scale oscillations of the stem, we transform the tree into a living diagnostic tool that reveals stresses long before they manifest in the canopy.

To achieve precision at scale, speakingTrees utilizes a stratified monitoring approach. We synchronize High-Resolution orchard mapping with High-Frequency Dendrometry,   so rather than using random sensor placement, we use these vigor maps to strategically install dendrometers within each representative zone. This ensures that the data captured is statistically significant and representative of the entire field’s variability.

While drones provide a «snapshot» of spatial health, our dendrometers provide the continuous «video recording”  of the tree’s physiological response. By monitoring these distinct vigor classes, we can observe how different sections of the orchard respond to management inputs and help optimize production.

We aim to revolutionize forest carbon monitoring for a sustainable future.
